ABOUT SHUANG LEI, MD
I was born and raised in Xi’an, China. At the age of 10, I moved with my family to Montreal, Canada where French quickly became my second language. Three years later, we immigrated to the United States making Las Vegas, Nevada our home and where we assimilated to the American way of life. After graduating high school from Las Vegas, I traveled across the country to attend college at Columbia University in New York City. By age 20, I had lived in 4 culturally very different urban centers. From an early age, I’ve learned that there is no one “right” way to live, but could there be “better”? (Of course!) Through my many identities as a first-generation immigrant, first generation college graduate, and first-generation doctor, I hope to be an equally compassionate and understanding partner in your journey to finding the better you.
GET TO KNOW OUR HISTORY
In my years of being a psychiatrist, I have worked in multiple hospital systems and practice settings - Los Angeles County Medical Center, Keck Hospital of USC, Kaiser Permanente, Exodus Recovery Urgent Care, Crisis Intervention and Inpatient Unit at Ventura County Medical Center, and finally private practice with David Wexler Medical Practitioner. I have picked up the best and purged the worst from my experiences to give you Psychiatry with Dr. Lei to emphasize a small-scale intimate approach to mental health care. The practice has since morphed and grown into Ascend Psychiatry with the help of Michelle, my business manager. We hope to accentuate that together, we can ascend to a better tomorrow with a healthier you.
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE
My practice is intentionally kept small so that I can deliver a truly individualized plan in an intimate setting. My team is small: just myself – the only clinician, and Michelle my business manager. This means that you will never have to deal with a covering doctor or an on-call psychiatric provider who doesn’t know your history. 365 days a year, I will be the only clinician facing your psychiatric medication needs. We offer coordination with your therapist, primary care doctor, caretaker, partner, and/or parent at the end of each appointment to ensure that everyone on your care team is on the same page. My practice prides itself on “quality over volume”- that is “quality of care” over “volume of patients”. The comprehensiveness of your care should not be limited by the constraint of time. My schedule allows frequent and urgent appointment slots to help support you in the way you deserve to be supported. Looking forward to meeting you.
